So, I’ve reached a point when I can afford to largen my pull list so at the moment I’m going through all the biggest Marvel and DC comics and reading one (Jump-on-point) issue and deciding whether or not to continue and if I’d reccomend it.
So, now you know.
AJ Decider #12: Batgirl (DC Comics)
I recently picked this series up under the command of Simone and Benes during Death in the Family and it was enjoyable but when it looked like the two had left, I gave it up. Now I’ve come back to it with #20 to see if I am still on board if Benes isn’t around, turns out, I really really am.!
So will I pull it?
The ventriloquist has made a very intriguing villain and Simone has debut’d a very different take on the villain which I really have enjoyed. It was a strong enough story to make me pull the series and the art was different to Benes but very nice.
But would I reccomend it to others?
- Yes, I’ve jumped on twice across two very different stories and Simone has kept the comic feeling fresh and fun both times.
If you dont want to pull the monthly, Batgirl v1: The Darkest Reflection is available now to decide for yourself!

AJ Decider #11: Avengers Assemble (Marvel Comics)
I followed this average series when Bendis was at the handle and when DeConnick initially took over with 9 but then it lost me, the series didnt feel like a canon comic any more and I abandoned it. Now after reading Avengers: The Enemy Within, I found the story much more enjoyable and decided I’ll give the series a try, and by extension Captain Marvel but I’ll get to that!
So will I pull it?
I will pull it for the crossover between the two DeConnick series and go from there.
But would I reccomend it to others?
- So far I havent heard any strong feelings either way on the book but it’s different to your usual Avengers so why not try the crossover like me!
- Shout-out to Al Ewing’s Age of Ultron issues which were also great!

AJ Decider #10: Avengers Arena (Marvel Comics)
I would be lying if I said I loved this comic from the moment it was announced, in fact I was among those who disliked it from the second the title got announced. That said, when issue #1 hit the shelves, I (like most NOW titles) picked up #1 and regretted all that time spent negatively thinking about a brilliant comic. Ever since #1 the story has been gripping, the tales have been serious, the stakes have been real and the characters have been written like Hopeless was writing for his life, which is good as his characters are.
So will I continue yo pull it?
Of course, I’m here until the end!
But would I reccomend it to others?
- I know the concept is frightening but if you like good comics then yet, yes I would.
- I was never strong on Walker’s art back on T-Bolts but it is perfectly suited for this series.
- Don’t be put off by the concept, try the comic itself and then decide!
If you dont want to pull the monthly, Avengers Arena v1: Kill or Die is available now to decide for yourself!
If you’re waiting for AJ Decider #6-9, they are Aquaman, which I plan to try come September, Astonishing X-Men which I do have an issue to read but not got around to yet, Avengers which is the same as Astonishing and Avengers AI which has yet to begin.

AJ Decider #5: Animal Man (DC Comics)
I’ve been tempted by this Jeff Lemire comic since #1. The only thing holding me back: Steve Pugh. I simply cannot stand the work.
So will I continue yo pull it?
Clearly not.
But would I reccomend it to others?
- The art is so bad to me I can’t reccomend it but others enjoy it and story-wise I’ve not heard anything but good things.
If you dont want to pull the monthly, Animal Man v1: The Hunt is available now to decide for yourself!
If you’re waiting for AJ Decider #4, it’s All-Star Western and I’m not going to try jumping onto until I have read the first trade which is downstairs in a large pile!
